R.M.S. Carmania was a prominent transatlantic ocean liner launched in 1905 for the Cunard Line. Notable for being among the first large passenger ships powered by Parsons steam turbines, a then-novel propulsion system, it operated primarily on the lucrative Liverpool-New York route. Its construction underscored the intense competition between shipping companies in the early 20th century to offer faster, more luxurious, and technologically advanced passages across the Atlantic.

The Carmania's service period spanned the golden age of ocean travel and extended into World War I, during which it was converted into an armed merchant cruiser. It achieved historical significance for its decisive victory against the German auxiliary cruiser SMS Cap Trafalgar in September 1914, a notable ship-to-ship battle of the early war. Following its wartime contributions, Carmania resumed passenger service until its retirement and scrapping in 1932.
